The Nativity Story
The Nativity story is about how Jesus, the Son of God, was born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. It’s the heart of why we celebrate Christmas!
A long time ago, a young woman named Mary lived in a town called Nazareth. One day, an angel named Gabriel appeared to her and told her amazing news: she was going to have a very special baby who would be the Son of God. Mary was surprised and a little scared, but she trusted God and said yes.
Mary was engaged to a man named Joseph, a kind and hardworking carpenter. Joseph didn’t understand at first what was happening, but an angel came to him in a dream and told him that Mary’s baby was from God. Joseph decided to take care of Mary and the baby.
Before the baby was born, the Roman emperor ordered everyone to go to their hometown to be counted. Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem. When they arrived, the town was so crowded that they couldn’t find a place to stay. Finally, they found shelter in a stable, a place where animals were kept.
That night, Mary gave birth to baby Jesus. She wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in a manger, a feeding trough for animals, because there was no bed.
Out in the fields, shepherds were watching their sheep when angels appeared and told them the wonderful news: the Savior had been born! The shepherds hurried to see the baby and praised God.
Far away, wise men saw a bright star and followed it to find Jesus. They brought Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The Nativity story reminds us of God’s love and how Jesus came to bring hope and peace to the world!
